JD-S supremo Deve Gowda skips all-party meeting on Cauvery issue convened by CM Siddaramaiah

C M Siddaramaiah on Thursday held an all-party meeting to discuss the ramifications of SC's recent Cauvery water sharing dispute verdict. Members representing all the political parties were present and put forth their views on the court's ruling that increased Karnataka's share of water from 270 tmcft to 284.75 tmcft. Former PM HD Deve Gowda was also invited to take part in this all-party meeting, but he did not turn up reportedly because he was upset that CM Siddaramaiah invited him to attend the meet via a letter. Sources told India Today that the JD-S supremo wanted the CM to personally invite him. But, India Today has accessed a note that was written by LK Atheeq, principal secretary to the chief minister. This note was addressed to one of the participants in the all-party meeting and then handed over to the CM himself.

The note clearly shows that the former PM, who was reportedly miffed, still wanted to share his thoughts on the Cauvery verdict with the CM. He is advising the CM to not file a revision petition before the Supreme Court. He wants the CM to instead call a meeting of BJP MPs at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi to convince the Central government on the injustice meted out to the state. He also added that the Cauvery Management Board should not be constituted. This note suggests that while CM and HD Kumaraswamy may not see eye to eye on multiple issues, it is quite different in the relationship between the CM and the former PM. Meanwhile, chief secretaries of all the Cauvery riparian states will on Friday meet in New Delhi to discuss the Supreme Court verdict. Chief secretaries from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will take part in this meeting to discuss the Supreme Court's recent verdict in the contentious Cauvery water sharing dispute.
